Birch Tree Island - is being tested! - Gurra - 05-07-2011 01:32 PM
Since I have got 18 downloads on the beta file, and I am sure I don't need more than 18 testers for this little world I have taken down the file. You who didn't get the chance now, wait for the final version instead. It will have a few sims in it aswell, and any problems will be fixed!
Screenshots attached to this post are old, go further down the thread for updated views of the world.
ETA: The world can now be downloaded here.

I think it's really cute. I especially like the stairs going all the way up. Is it one lot, or did you somehow get stairs in CAW? either way, it's really cool. The only thing I would say on the texturing, is on the back side of the rock, maybe soften the edges of the darker terrain.
RE: Birch Tree Island - Gurra - 05-07-2011 02:52 PM
Thank you for the advice about the rock terrain! :) The stairs is a lot, and to make sure sims take the "lot way" up and down the stairs is the only part of the rock that is not painted as non-routing.
Edit: By the way; if you didn't see it, the darker rock terrain is supposed to look like if some giant person had put their hand there. :P

I usually work a lot when a project is new, so here is an update of my progress!
The city plan of Birch Tree Island is finished, and this is what the whole island looks like at the moment:
This is what the north part of the island looks like, not many changes but still. I love the view myself!
Southern part of the island has a square and it's also supposed to be two residential lots here.
And this is the centre of Birch Tree Island where there will be a park, consignment store, laundromat, salon and two residential lots.
As you can see, there is a reason for the name Birch Tree Island.

It looks really cool! Although I can't quite figure out how someone would play in it.
RE: Birch Tree Island - Gurra - 05-07-2011 04:55 PM
Although I can see how you would play in it. ;) There is first of all only one career, and that's the Ambitions career Stylist. So if you really need to be in a career that would be your choice. Other than that, this world is a world for the self-employed to write, paint, fish, collect seeds and plant etc. And then the fact that there is a town centre and neighbours it won't be dead if you want to leave your home.
Also, I am not creating larger worlds that are made to be a real player world like Sunset Valley. My worlds are of course playable if you like smaller worlds and details, but it's more a way for me to be creative. A lot isn't enough for me anymore, I need a whole island!
Edit: I have to admit though that I'm not a very patient person. Therefore I just can't work on large worlds. :P

Hey, I'm not going to diss your skills at creating micro worlds! For seriously, I love what you do with them! I'd go stark-raving mad, though, if confined to a tiny space like that.
RE: Birch Tree Island - LoserInc - 05-07-2011 06:03 PM
Ahhh, I did not notice that it was a hand print! Very cool :) I may have to play around with this one when you are finished.
RE: Birch Tree Island - Gurra - 05-08-2011 07:23 AM
Town centre is being shaped and I have finished the consignment store, salon, and a park.
This is Market Square which is the consignment store, and Salon Style.
Wonderful views is what you get if visiting Lord von Birke Memorial Park.

Now there are houses for sims to live in. What about one of these cute cottages...
... or why not live in a shed?
Since houses are to small to fit washing machines, Birch Tree Island has got a local laundromat:
And an overview pic!
What do you think? It's almost done. I will probably put it up for testing this evening, so be prepared if you want to test it out. ;)
RE: Birch Tree Island - Judy Sims - 05-08-2011 10:27 AM
It is a very cute island for a small world. I love the stairs going up the mountain. But I have to admit, it would have limited game play and the population would be have to be small, too. But who am I to say as my first island world had to have a limited population, also. And some people like small worlds because their computers can't handle larger ones, so there is a place in this Universe for all worlds. Good job!!!;)
RE: Birch Tree Island - Available for testing! - Gurra - 05-08-2011 10:59 AM
Birch Tree Island is finished and needs to be tested! I would really like it if you to test everything and anything, and visit as many lots and places as possible!
World Adventures, Ambitions and Late Night is required to play - some objects from stuff packs may be in the world.
Beta no longer available - since I have got 18 downloads on it, and I don't really need that many testers. Wait for the final version if you didn't got to test!
RE: Birch Tree Island - Available for testing! - LoserInc - 05-08-2011 12:12 PM
I downloaded and will give it a test run later today or tomorrow. It's super cute!

Aw, Gurra, it looks really great! I love your little cottages.
RE: Birch Tree Island - is being tested! - Gurra - 05-09-2011 03:00 AM
I checked out my Mediafire account this morning and it seems that I have got 18 downloads - that's more testers than I need, hehe. :) So it's not available for download anymore, until I and testers have tested it out enough so that I can put together the final version. :D
