Atlantis Renaissance - Judy Sims - 05-20-2011 05:36 PM

Presenting a new world...Atlantis Renaissance.

Over 11,000 years ago, there existed an island nation located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that was populated by a noble and powerful race. The people of this land possessed great wealth thanks to the natural resources found throughout their island.

This was the island of Atlantis.

Atlantis was the domain of Poseidon, god of the sea. When Poseidon fell in love with a mortal woman, Cleito, he created a dwelling at the top of a hill near the middle of the island and surrounded the dwelling with rings of water and land to protect her. Cleito gave birth to five sets of twin boys who became the first rulers of Atlantis. The island was divided among the brothers with the eldest, Atlas, who was the first King of Atlantis, being given control over the central hill and surrounding areas.

At the top of the central hill, a temple was built to honor Poseidon, and it housed a giant statue of Poseidon riding a chariot pulled by winged horses. It was here that the rulers of Atlantis would come to discuss laws, pass judgments, and pay tribute to Poseidon.

To facilitate travel and trade, a water canal was cut through the rings of land and there was water running south for 5.5 miles to the sea. The city spread across the outer ring of 11 miles and the majority of the population lived on this ring. This ring entrance was heavily guarded to prevent invaders.

For generations, the Atlanteans lived simple, virtuous lives, but slowly they began to change. Greed and power began to corrupt them. When Zeus saw the immorality of the Atlanteans, he gathered the other gods to determine a suitable punishment. Soon, in one violent surge, it was gone. The island of Atlantis, its people, and its memory was swallowed by the sea.

This is a summary of the story told by Plato around 360 BC. These writings of Plato are the only specific known references to Atlantis. They have prompted controversy and debate for over two thousand years.

This legend inspired my creation of a Sims version, which I call Atlantis Renaissance. This rebirth is strictly my humble interpretation of the island, although I tried to build the world according to Plato's description and the different artist renderings. This legendary world has been modified due to game limitations and to meet the needs of a Sims population. Sculpting the land rings and water canals was a very unique challenge, as well as building the lots and roads in a circular fashion. There are dirt roads and sidewalks, which are fully functional. The island was designed for game play of an ancient era, but it can easily convert to a modern tourist island or whatever your imagination comes up with. It has been thoroughly Sims tested.

The center ring holds the Temple of Poseidon and a small bistro for socializing and hearing the latest island news.

Center Ring:
Temple of Poseidon (City Hall)
Temple Bistro (diner)

The second ring holds most of the city's businesses, as well as the entertainment areas. There are numerous little retreats close to the canals and shorelines of the outer ring. Sims may travel by car (unavoidable) or use some of the sidewalks to get to the different spots. Larger retreats are also available throughout the island that meets hygiene, hunger, social and entertainment needs.

Second Ring Community Lots available:
Ammon Pool, Diaprepe's Market, Plutarch Academy, Saris Park, Sonchio Books &Scrolls, Atlantis Public Restrooms, Plato's Library, Azaes Canal Retreat, Hermocrates Spa/Fitness Center, Meneseus Hospital, Apollo Writers Club, Psenophis Museum of Art, Atlantis Commons Park, Elasippus Theater, Gadietus Amphitheater, Atlantis Cemetery, Toteni's Tattoo/Stylist Shoppes, Atlantis Winery, Atlantis Fire Brigade and the Kaza Sports Bar (EA remodel).

The third ring or outer ring holds most of the residential homes, vineyards, parks, playgrounds and a few large community areas. This ring is heavily guarded by the Atlantean military to prevent any invaders who might try to breech their canals or land areas. There are watch towers located on each side of the canal entrance, as well as the nearby Atlantis Fortress.

Third Ring Community Lots Available:
Canal Retreat, Persephone Hot Springs, Heliopolis Playground, Eumelus Park (EA Redo), Atlantis Seashore Retreat, Azaes Seashore Retreat, Seashore Public Restrooms, Evenor Pond, Fortress of Atlantis, Cumelas Park (EA Redo), Poseidon Aquarium.

Total Community Lots with Buildings: 34
Total Residential Lots with Buildings: 32

Peasant- 3 furnished lots (two are starters) and 4 unfurnished on 20x40 lots. (These lots are built in row house fashion)
Middle Class- 4 furnished lots/ 6 unfurnished lots on 20x40 lots (these lots are built in row house fashion)
Upper Middle Class- 1 furnished lot/ 3 unfurnished lots on 20x40 lots
Nobility-2 furnished lots/ 9 unfurnished lots (Vary from 40x40 to 60x64)

Total Community Lots without Buildings: 7
Total Residential Lots without Buildings: 44

Most of the lots are standard sizes, but the ones that are not can be placed on a larger lot if need be.

Peasant Village: There is a village on the other side of the island for the peasants. These homes are located near the island's beach area and will meet your Sim's need for a starter home. There is a village playground, a tiny fishing hole, a junkyard and a seashore retreat for the peasant's needs. As the road winds around to the very back of the island, numerous community and residential empty lots of various sizes have been placed for any future lot needs.

Custom Content Used: Free CC-1 Greek window railing and 1 Greek arch by Dgandy and Carzarupt's rabbit hole rugs. (You can download the free Jynx rabbit hole rugs from MTS as an alternate.) One EA store item (Poseidon's Fury) is needed for it to show up in the Aquarium.

Requirements: All EPs and patches. The free world, Riverview, is needed for the farm objects to show up.

I'm glad you like it. The pics don't do it justice. I hope you are ready, for I will be submitting the lots on it soon for those who might not want the world, but would have an interest in the lots. Now I am ready to move on to my next CAW project and learn some more. :D

Simple. With a advanced graphic editor (like Photoshop) you can create the most delirious maps which you can imagine. Your world is so well done that I believed that you had made it in this way.

I will take that as a very nice compliment, Dantes, but no map other than the ancient maps of Atlantis. I just looked at them and added a dash of my imagination to build my world.

Oh, thanks so much for downloading it. I would love to know what you think of it after playing it. And thanks for the great feedback from the pics.

Beautiful work Judy!

I've got you included in the World Index here at CS3. You'll need to register on the EA forum to get in that one. :)

RE: Atlantis Renaissance - Judy Sims - 05-23-2011 10:32 PM

Thanks, so much for the compliment as well as getting me registered. I heard the World Index on the Sims3 is not active anymore. I registered Pandora months ago and it was never posted. I figured it was just not active anymore. I did put a thread on the CAW forum and had a good response. And yes, I did post pics this time, so no flax. LOL

This world looks very nice. Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup1:

RE: Atlantis Renaissance - auntielynds - 05-23-2011 11:01 PM

Hey Judy,

Simmerville is no longer able to keep it up, so Rflong took it over. Pandora may have been missed in the transition, so check back and see.

RE: Atlantis Renaissance - Regina - 05-24-2011 02:22 AM

Aww, thank you, AuntieLynds! I've been not making it all the way around lately. :P
