Sorry about your cat. :(

A very nice layout with good flow and the set up is spacious and without seeming vast. I might have gone a little lighter and brighter for the kids area but that's just a personal preference. A very nice lot it looks like it would fit into almost any Sim neighborhood.
Thanks Suzetter! That pool was an experiment gone right: I wanted someting more interesting than the standard rectangle or round-cornered job. It was also an after thought. I'm just glad I got it in there! LOL

Part of the darkness downstairs, I'm learning, isn't quite that it's actually dark, there's plenty of light. However, I've been playing with lower quality settings. I've upped them since then for contest purposes, and oh my goodness at the difference! I'll never take pics at the lower settings again, if I can help it!

And now I'm  stop it! LOL

So what do you do when the game tells you to restart after setting the graphics too high to actually play?

RE: Building Challenge # 3 - Those Darn Kids! - Dantes - 09-02-2011 08:00 AM

Save the game before changing the setting?

RE: Building Challenge # 3 - Those Darn Kids! - Ghost - 09-02-2011 08:09 AM

I was hoping there was something easier than "Go to edit town, save the game, go to options, change the settings, go back and take the picture, restart, go back to options and change the settings again, and restart again. And hope you have the settings right."

Sims 2 was so much easier...

Oh I see what you're asking. Actually, I'm discovering that if I manage my time actually in the game, it's not so bad (so far). I'll take a few pics, go do something else online (like chat here! ;) ) and go back to it without having to reduce the settings.

I'm on a laptop with a core i5 processor, 4 Gb of RAM, and a fairly large hard drive (for a laptop), and I learned to switch to something else once in a while to keep it from overheating. My biggest issue is the integrated video card. It turns out to have quite a bit of power... as long as I don't task it for too long at a time. Custom houses are hard because I often find myself using a lot of very nice but polygon heavy CC. On some houses, I've found the display driver crashes when I turn the camera towards certain areas. Not sure yet what they have in common. When/if I figure it out, I'll avoid building such houses again. >.< Meantime, I make sure to save a copy of the house frequently, then save the game as well. Less regrets!

It sounds like you need a better video card and/or more RAM? Especially if you have a lot of EPs (so far I only have the base game). It might (probably will) be different when I get Late Night!

Jaguwar, do you have one of those fan base things that sits directly under the laptop? We got one of those for my daughter's laptop sometime back and it really helped with cooling.

RE: Building Challenge # 3 - Those Darn Kids! - Jaguwar - 09-02-2011 10:41 PM

Not at the moment. Actually, it's gotten a whole lot better since I moved out of the really hot living room into the much cooler back bedroom. Still, it gets hot... I might need a new router first, though, mine appears to be dying. :(

The fan base would probably help loads, then, although getting it into a cooler room was a smart move. We rarely have a cool house in the summer so always make sure the computers have plenty of air circulation. It's the only way we can keep them alive. :P

Okay well, we're winding up on this challenge. Are you guys up for another one?

RE: Building Challenge # 3 - Those Darn Kids! - Dantes - 09-05-2011 07:26 PM

Always. ;)

Good work everyone. :thumbsup1:

RE: Building Challenge # 3 - Those Darn Kids! - Ghost - 09-06-2011 08:23 AM

Obviously I'm not very good at building things that everybody else likes too. I even managed 0 votes this time. (Please don't spoil my record now. I don't mind having 0 votes. When you are at the bottom the only way to go is up, and I like knowing that I have got to be able to do at least as well, if not better next time. )

But I had a lot of fun, and I'm going to keep trying.

RE: Building Challenge # 3 - Those Darn Kids! - Regina - 09-06-2011 12:23 PM

Aww, Ghost, I'm sorry! Hug1 I doubt very much my building would win against the likes of some of these entries, either.

:hug3: from me to Ghost. At least you try, I don't even bother entering contests as I can never seem to get the right idea at the right time.

That's not true Ghost. I like your builds and so do other people. I think your creations always exude a lot of charm and warmth. And the things I especially like in them are always memorable as well -- I don't have to look back on the thread to recall your ingenious use of the staircase in the Monotone renovation or see in my mind the whimsical and welcoming fairy tale like exterior of your Victorian Mansion.

It makes me happy to know you're enjoying doing the challenge builds as I enjoy seeing what you create.

Also, how do you have no votes? You are allowed to vote for yourself which most people usually do.

Let me give you this Hug1 before I continue, and this too :hug3:, I know I drive you nuts with all my comments about the pix being dark or crowded or angled but I do so because I want to see you all present your work to its best advantage.

RE: Building Challenge # 3 - Those Darn Kids! - Regina - 09-06-2011 08:18 PM

Shoot, now why don't I think to say things like Suzetter just did? I also very much enjoy your builds, Ghost, and I enjoy seeing your imagination and creativity at work because it's very unique and always surprises me. Sunshine
