Building an Apartment
I have a couple of houses I made for Sims3 that are quite cute and never uploaded anywhere. I also have a half-finished motel but because I don't have the foggiest about how sims3 non-residential lots work I abandoned it. If anyone wants to advise me/give help on how best to set it up to play it I would like to try and upload it here.

Do you have an "exclusive" clause for uploads or could I also post it on my own site?

RE: We need more uploaders ...
No exclusive clause here.

As to the motel, if you have LN could it be changed to low end apartments. There are many efficiency hotels here in the States that look similar to your pic. They have one room with a bed, table with 2 chairs, small kitchenette (frig, microwave, sink and counter) and a bathroom.

Feel free to upload here anything you like and put it on your site as well if you want. Many of my lots are both here and on the exchange. At one time I had several at MTS.

As far as how to make it an apartment, I too am confused on that one. I will see about getting some info.

Ok, I have a floorplan shot (the motel rooms are on two sides of the forecourt - mirror images)

I would add another pic but I only have an update attachment option

All you would have to do is take out the desk to place a tiny kitchen and you would be set. I still need to look about how to actually make a lot an apartment. I tall you what it would be perfect in a city world with seedy clubs and such around it.

To make an apartment, you have to have BuyDebug cheat set to on and then you buy the call box in Buy Debug and put it on a wall of the apartment somewhere accessible to the public for when they come over to visit. I think that's all it takes; that's what I did on a residential lot and it worked.

I have one sim at Simlogical.com. You will find the rest of my creations here at CS3. Happy Simming! Kiss_32x32

RE: We need more uploaders ...
@tontrin Will that allow many sims to live there (like in TS2) or it will it be just for one sim?

see, I considered making it a base camp, but I don't have WA :D

That bit at the back opposite the entrance is supposed to be a managers office.

Thanks tontrin, I could not remember for the life of me what to do to find those call boxes. As an apartment several sims can live there and a player can have their sim live in one of the units too.

RE: We need more uploaders ...
Apartments don't quite work the same in TS3, I personally don't think they're anywhere near as good as their TS2 predecessors. Besides the call box, you need to have public areas set with the room markers found in buy debug, and set any doors to "npc apartments" as NPC doors, which requires just clicking on them and selecting the "make NPC door" option. Its probably advisable only to have one or two extra doors in your apartment.

Only one PC sim at a time can live in an apartment, unlike TS2. NPC's don't actually live there, but knocking on an NPC door will generate an NPC for your sim to meet. Using the call box will give you a list of supposed sims that live in the building. I ran into issues that I've never been able to sort out with one of my own apartment builds, in that with only two NPC doors in addition to the PC door, I had about 28 supposed npc sims living in the building with only three apartments. Never quite worked out why that happened.

Wow Pary, guess I know why we don't see many available for download for TS3 like we did with TS2. I personally love the Apartments in TS2 and was a bit bummed when EA changed them the way they did.

Thanks Pary; I had so little time but I thought I would get things headed in the right direction. I knew there was more I had to do to the lot for the apartment but wasn't at home where I could remember everything.

The reason it shows more sims than can actually live at the apartments is that it makes it so that you can access any of the service sims at the apartments. It's as if they live there. I have found this very handy because I no longer use awesome mod; I got tired of having to update all the time for it. Therefore all my service sims spawn with the same face. I can send a sim to the apartments and call each service sim, click on them with Twallan's Master Controller installed and click Edit in CAS and replace them with another sim or give them plastic surgery. Also if I have a sim that wants to make a friend out of one of them, it's easier to track them down there than anything else.

I didn't ever have Apartment Life for TS2 but it sounds like it was way better than the way they are done in TS3. At least I've found a useful thing for the TS3 ones.

RE: We need more uploaders ...
Is there any chance of a moderator splitting this thread off or something? it is turning into a great discussion but it is in the wrong place and I totally hijacked the thread (I did not mean to Sookie - I will try to be less rowdy here than we are on leefish :( )

Sorry

Lee, your apartments/motel are fantastic! I don't know yet how to make them work in TS3, I haven't dared go there yet, but if you figure it out, I'm sure it'll be in high demand. :)
