X2-question Stairs - Useful or a Nightmare?
I hope this is the right section. :)

I, for one, have always had a nightmare when trying to add stairways to the outside of a building especially if I have raised the ground that it sits on, they just never seem to be placed where I want them or I have to fight with them because they end up being too long or going to far down into the ground.

With these problems I've been having with my game and having to remove and reinstall it I ended up losing 2 lots that I had been working on - one was with a Victorian type house on a hill (on the lot only) and while making this house and adding a long stairway that paralleled the side of the hill until you made it to the porch - it's a double wide stair - that I ended up learning at least a little bit about them.

Let me explain this a little better so maybe you can picture it better, I'll use North/South/East/West to help.

I found that with the side of my hill going east west and the high side was on the north and the very very low side (big hill) is on the south, I ran my stairs along the east west axis and almost at the top is where it turned 90 degrees to the porch.

I started my stairs at the top and came down 5 steps where they made a flat landing going from north to south. If I left things just as they were when you came down the stairs you'd have quite a long fall to the ground... Soo here is where I made the 90 degree turn and brought the stairs down to near the front of the lot. I did not widen the side of the hill at all for the stairs, I started at that first landing and came down 15 or so stairs and made a new landing and so on down to the ground level.

What I found is this - between the landings the hill was still the same and I had basically a void between any of the 2 landings - insert water fall here.. I WISH! LOL

You may have known this but I didn't and yes it did surprise me and gave me more new idea's about this opening under the stairs...

Now to learn how to make waterfalls....

RE: Stairs - Useful or a Nightmare?
I hate exterior stairs too, and CFE stairs, I always seem to create routing errors. :( Good for you for working out such an intricate stairing system!
