Hi,
Maybe someone can help or post some links if there are solutions. I found so many threads about this problem I’m having and now I’m confused – what is right to do and what isn’t. I’ll be very thankful for any answers. There is my problem: My OS: Windows 32 bit (I made it LAA). I have all SIMS 3 EPs (no stuff pacs), downloaded CC (in downloads folder) and mods (only trustable). Downloads and mods I use in my game are fine – I have checked them, nothing corrupted or conflicting. Still I have problems with game freezing, save errors, every time I play some script errors appear in my documents/.. sims3 folder. What I’ve done so far. I cleaned out all my CC, deleted downloads I’m not using, cleaned cache files. I also had a self made world that I wasn’t able to use, because it crashed. I removed families from that world and deleted it. However, the problems is still there - it freezes, especially on fast forward. I played the game with no CC and still the same problem. What I already found out. My “”back-up” data is > 1 Gig… the same goes for DCCache. Besides while testing it, I found out that both back up files and DCCache has some corrupted files within. I guess the “easiest way” is to re-install the game by deleting sims 3 folder in my documents. I’ve done it with sims 2, but I haven’t done it with sisms 3. So the question… Is it the best way – to take out sism 3 folder from my documents and let the game regenerate it, then re-install all CC in download folder… I still would like to keep my already made sims (also – already made families), the rest doesn’t matter. Can a sim or a family be corrupted? How can I check it? What can I do about it to keep the already made sim? Maybe there is another way? If I only delete DCbackup and DCCache, will it “clean” game from corrupted files? Is there anything else I should delate? When I re-install CC (in download folder), should I re-dowload it again or can I use bacup form the folder I have, to –reinstall it again. What is the safest way to install CC and to be sure I don’t corrupt my game again (so far I’m using Delphy's Dashboard). Thank you. |

RE: Help needed (with “re-installing” game)
I am sorry you are having so many problems with your game.
First rename your existing "The Sims 3" Folder (add something to the end of it like "The Sims 3 Old) Start your game. Let it run through the movie and all. Play for a bit, trying to cause the lag and freezing. If while you are playing in this new The Sims 3 folder you do not get lag or freezing, then even though the dashboard says the files are not corrupted, they are conflicting and causing issue in your game. After testing with a vanilla game, if there are no issues, go into your old sims 3 folder and start adding your CC in a few pieces at a time, run the game to see if you get the lag or freezing, and repeat. Keep doing this until you find out what it is causing the problem. I know it is a major pain in the tookus, but it is the only way to know for sure what is causing your problems. Once you get your game set with CC that is not causing issues, then copy your saved sims and save games you want over to the new sims 3 folder. I actually don't use but a tiny amount of cc, but just had to take it all out due to a crashing issue. I have it narrowed down to a small number of files that have always been part of my game and only started causing crashes after this last patch. |

RE: Help needed (with “re-installing” game)
Thanks, I guess I'll have to go the hard way... is it only the "mods" folder that I have to check or can the "download" folder be also corrupted. Most of the downloads I now have are from EA (the buyable) or MTS trustable members, mostly patterns. Before that I also downloaded some houses - that was the core problem. Because some of the houses had CC... I like your policy about CC free downloads.
I'd like to play the game with no CC, but it 's always so tempting. Especially hairs and nraas stuff :) |

RE: Help needed (with “re-installing” game)
It definitely is possible to get stuff corrupted in the download folder. It's a good idea to check everything.

I know it is a pain, but it really is better to let the game generate a new folder and start from scratch, gradually putting everything back in.

Hmm.. so in sims 2 there was only one place to check, now there are two :)) It'll have to wait a vocation or a very rainy day :))

That I can understand; I don't know how many hours I've spent going through stuff to find a problem.
