do islands cause lag?
Hello all. Its been awhile since I've posted here.
I have a question though if anyone know the answer. If you have no bridges to islands and do not make them un-routable, will this cause lag? |

RE: do islands cause lag?
Yes; that can cause serious problems. I've experienced it with my game.
I have one sim at Simlogical.com. You will find the rest of my creations here at CS3. Happy Simming!

RE: do islands cause lag?
The interesting question is what will happen with Seasons? Playable sims will be able to swim, but what about NPC's, and Pets?
Here's some discussion on it at MTS http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=484167 |

RE: do islands cause lag?
If a sim has no direct way of getting to an island, and it is not painted as un-route-able - then you you will get serious lag. The game will generate townies or NCP's anywhere in your neighborhood that is route-able for sims. So if one of these gets spawned to that island - stomping feet and screaming sim alert. Just like Tontrin said.

RE: do islands cause lag?
Quote:For the first time in The Sims PC/Mac franchise, your Sims can swim in ANY ocean, river or lake that is in the world! For all of you world builders out there, your Sims can swim in the bodies of water you've created as well! As long as the ocean, river or lake is not on a residential or community lot, has a gradual slope into the water, and your Sims can walk to the coast, then they can dive right in!The Sims 3 Community Blog Seems the old rules will no longer apply.

RE: do islands cause lag?
I know absolutely for sure that the islands in the WA worlds can and do cause lag issues. I have experienced it and tontrin stated that she has also.
Daisylee: please check your facts before posting. |

RE: do islands cause lag?
Indeed, some of the lag and freezes were the worst in the WA worlds.

RE: do islands cause lag?
The one thing I've learned with the Sims 3 and Caw, is the rules do not stay stagnant. What was a true fact with one EP, can get turned upside down with the next.

RE: do islands cause lag?
Umm, Excuse me? I am glad you have not had lag from islands. Nobody is saying that you are lying. But I do believe that some people have had problems with lag that turned out to have been caused by islands. You are just one of the people who hasn't. There were people who didn't get blue lots from files that caused it, either. That doesn't mean that it didn't happen to other people, or that anybody was lying either way. There is enough variation in systems that it is quite believable that you don't have lag, while other people do.
In Sims 2, EA didn't believe that putting an occupied lot into the lots and houses bin, and then moving that lot to another neighborhood would cause trouble either. That ability was never removed. But it became apparent that doing so would immediately cause corruption in both neighborhoods, which would, if the neighborhood was played long enough, cause the whole neighborhood to implode. So forgive me if I have stopped believing that something is not a problem just because EA doesn't think it is. Although if they are going to make oceans swimmable, that whole issue of islands causing lag is likely to become a moot point, and failing to paint the islands with unroutable paint was simply a hint. (Or, equally likely, swimmable oceans is intended to fix the problem so they don't have to redo all their worlds.) |
