Hey there, did not know what forum to ask this in, but what photo editing programs do you like best? I have a very old program and would like to get something newer and with better features.

Suggestions? Free is always good, but I would buy if it is good. Sunshine

Well, I'm still using PSP 9 mainly because it's what I know. It really depends on what you want to do with the program. I think the best free program, the one with the most overall features is Gimp.

I use Photobie, which is also free, and has a lot of features. Unfortunately it doesn't have DDS support yet, so I have Gimp on the 32 bit computer and Paint.net on the 64 bit computer for translating between DDS and png. But as far as I can tell, that is the only function that they have that Photobie doesn't, and with Photobie it seems easier to save custom brushes and selection shapes. (And make gif animations) Again, it's what you know.

Thanks, everyone. I looked at that Gimp program and it is more program than I need. I will look at that Photobie and see if it something I might like. My old program does most everything I want, and I might just try updating it to a newer program. It is like you say, it is whatever you get used to. My ancient program and I are old friends. :MrGreen:

I know that feeling. I started using PSP years ago and I wouldn't mind at all at this point switching to something a bit more robust but it really does do most of the things I need it to do.

What type of features are you looking for that your old one doesn't have? Sometimes there are small programs that do a particular thing, like Inkscape was created for the single purpose of creating vectors. Since PSP doesn't do vectors and that's something I'd like to learn I hope to one day have time to start playing around with that.

Photoshop Elements, GIMP, and Paint.net are the ones I use the most.

Just for my 2 cents into this section I have used PSP for years and yes I've tried PhotoShop but for me it was too hard and also it costs way way way too ***** much!

Currently - until something screws it up again - I'm using PSP X2 (Paint Shop Pro 12) and I love it. No, PhotoShop does give you some great tools to use and I'm sorry they won't add them to PSP but still, I'd rather stick with something I know and works oustandingly for me...
