RE: EA Updates Origin Licensing Agreement for EU Users
If EA makes it to where I have to run my game through Origins so it can track me and mine data, I will break every sim disc I have into small pieces and ship them to EA's door.
I have noticed that if you totally block the game from accessing the internet it will really mess up when you run as an admin. I finally had be sure to never be online unless I am going after an update or downloading from the store. I am beginning to think I may say to blank with the store too, even the freebies. I have had it with all these companies trying to get rich off MY personal surfing habits and information. |

RE: EA Updates Origin Licensing Agreement for EU Users
Sookie, if you know how, run a tracer while you surf as Origin may still be following you anyway. Basically that Eula you signed to make your disk works makes Origin or at least parts of it still able to track you and your surfing habbits just for having one of EA's games or any of their partners and now any of their social games able to track your surfing period just being on your machine. Even Adobe and Java are in EA's partnership group and also have origin connections. It's like the only way you can escape it is buy just Blizzard/Activision games and then you get sucked into Battlegear - Blizzards own version of that demon ware (my name for it, not any official name mind you.)
Heck No I would not break the games I have paid for and send them to EA. What is the point of that seeing they already have my money and it seems anything I like to play now a days already belongs to EA anyway - apparently. What do we do as far as the OS, all get Macs. I see the writin on the wall. EA already has a good 4 CEO's at Microsoft and Microsoft has 2 that I know of at EA. Is it just a coincidence that Bill Gates is talking about stepping down when this last OS is done so he can enjoy his family while he still has time? Bill Gates usually doesn't say much or even give too many non-technical interviews - so I was shocked when I saw that at that E3 interview this year. he did say he was just weighing the possibility - so who knows - but one of EA Ceo's would be in line for that top position if they automatically go up the ladder by rank there. So would one or two Microsoft people but when you also see Bill Gates discussing with JR about EA possibly taking over all his console and Windows games - something more is up then they just swapping CEO for the last 5 years back and forth. Just Halo alone make Bill Gates Billions - and the fact before JR got to EA Bill Gates and EA's former Ceo were virtual enemies and their gaming division was an EA rival company. As it is EA makes games for Microsofts console and even sells them through Origin. With a code a short while ago you could get up to 60 percent off on the Microsoft games at Origin. The code was something like ORIGIN60. Anyway, I suppose worrying about it doesn't change anything. I know there are too many people who already accept Origin as they are already saying they are not about to forego the Battlegear games or Mass Affect or Drangon Age or Skyrim or anything because they must have Origin installed. I am seeing it on other websites where otheres are discussing some of this same stuff - and their general insight in the matter seems to be accept Origin or find another hobby. Some of them are saying it's better than steam. Apparently it works like steam on consoles and digital. I seriously doubt I can find another hobby - health issue keeps me limited now a days - so EA is not about to make me angry enough to break all my games. Or quit playing sims for that matter as long as the good lord is willing to give me life. It doesn't mean I have to like it. Also that lawyer getting in contact makes me think possibly EA is also walking on thin Ice. I guess we wait and see. |

Thanks for the suggestion on the tracer Writin. I will check into it and see what happens.

RE: EA Updates Origin Licensing Agreement for EU Users
Another thing you can do with Origin is to make sure it's not in your start-up programs so it can't run automatically when your computer turns on. I've used CCleaner to disable quite a number of programs that do that. Then make sure to have firewall settings so it has to ask for confirmation every time it tries to access the internet.
There really needs to be something changed with all this tracking nonsense. This stuff should be opt-IN, not have to jump through a dozen hoops to figure out how to opt-OUT! Way too many companies are tracking people all over the internet. USA Today has no less than four tracking cookies to put on your computer, CBS's news site has at least seven. Facebook is under scrutiny for the cookies they're using, one of which lasts at least 90 days. BogSims Institute, where you won't find much, but what you do find may be useful. |

RE: EA Updates Origin Licensing Agreement for EU Users
Regina, when you install or update Origin don't just click install until you uncheck mark the little box that tells it to come on ever time you boot up windows. There are two boxes there check marked right together above each other, and if you hit install too fast it will automatically do that and is nearly impossible to get it back out of starting with Windows because it seem to tie into windows boot instead of the start - up. I have learned the hard way, and tried everything to find where it links and don't have much luck - but it is not the normal places I usually go to remove things like that. I either wait for the next update or uninstall the thing and then reinstall it again if I still have things to do with the store etc.
But now I won't click install until I find that miserable little check mark. |

RE: EA Updates Origin Licensing Agreement for EU Users
I don't remember a checkmark, but if I saw it you can bet I told it not to start when I booted my computer. At any rate, it doesn't run on startup. I absolutely hate it when developers think people are so stupid they can't even figure out how to start a program or that I'm going to be using their software so frequently I can't live without it being started right away. If it was up to them I'd have a dozen rarely used (because much of what I have doesn't get used every day of my life) apps slowing down my machine when it starts instead of being able to turn it on, sit down, take a couple of sips of tea, move a few things around on my desk and have my computer ready to go. Maybe I should add my browser to my start-up since it's always the first thing I open! :hmm:

RE: EA Updates Origin Licensing Agreement for EU Users
Ya, those pesky check boxes are so easy to miss. I don't remember how many times I accidentally installed something I didn't want or left on a capability of a program I didn't want just by clicking "install" too hastily. I remember that tic box and telling it not to load up on start up. I do that with all things (when I'm paying attention) so it doesn't slow my computer from loading too, because, just like you, Regina, I usually use a program every once in a while, not every time I start my computer. And there's absolutely no good reason to have all that stuff load on start-up. Just like you said, it just makes your computer take longer to boot.
I have one sim at Simlogical.com. You will find the rest of my creations here at CS3. Happy Simming!
